SAN ANTONIO – Fourteen veterans graduated Friday from a training program that qualifies them for highly skilled, well-paid jobs in the solar power industry.
The Solar Ready Vets program trained the students in solar photovoltaics and grid-interactive installation.
The students are now ready to take the associate level exam of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners and earn an apprentice electrician license.
“As someone who’s already been out for a few years, it’s actually very helpful,” Katlin Gamache, an Air Force veteran, said about the program. “I have worked for a few less than career-worthy jobs, and I have really missed becoming a system matter expert again.”
The program is a partnership between the Alamo Colleges District and the U.S. Department of Education, which helps active duty members, veterans and dependents make the transition to the civilian workforce.
